The Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its annual Kenmore-Tonawanda Chamber Choice Awards. Awardees will be honored at the Ken-Ton Chamber’s Choice Award Ceremony & Cocktail Evening on Wednesday, December 10 at 6PM. These awards aim to recognize businesses, entrepreneurs, and young professionals who enhance and contribute to the quality of life in Western New York. Nominations for all award categories are open to businesses, organizations, and individuals living or working in Western New York.

Kenmore - Tonawanda Chamber Choice Award Categories & Criteria

Non-Profit Excellence Award

This award recognizes a non-profit organization that demonstrates exceptional commitment to serving the Kenmore–Tonawanda community through innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact.

Nominee Criteria- A nominated organization should:

  1. Community Impact – Shows measurable results in improving the quality of life for individuals, families, or the community.
  2. Innovation in Programs/Services – Demonstrates creativity and resourcefulness in addressing community needs through programs, events, or initiatives.
  3. Leadership & Collaboration – Exhibits strong leadership and fosters partnerships with other organizations, businesses, or community groups to achieve shared goals.
  4. Sustainability & Growth – Maintains a clear vision for long-term impact, demonstrating organizational growth, financial responsibility, and adaptability.
  5. Volunteer & Staff Engagement – Encourages a culture of volunteerism and employee engagement that amplifies the organization’s mission.
  6. Alignment with Chamber Values – Actively supports the economic and social vitality of the Kenmore–Tonawanda region.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a registered 501(c)(3) or equivalent non-profit.
  • Must serve or have a significant impact in the Ken-Ton community.

Young Leader Award

This award honors an emerging leader (ages 21–40) who demonstrates outstanding leadership, community involvement, and professional growth, making a positive impact on the Kenmore–Tonawanda region.

Nominee Criteria- A nominated individual should:

  1. Leadership in Career or Organization – Shows initiative, innovation, and measurable success in their profession, business, or organization.
  2. Community Involvement – Actively contributes to the Ken-Ton community through volunteerism, civic engagement, or nonprofit involvement.
  3. Vision & Innovation – Demonstrates forward-thinking ideas, solutions, or projects that inspire others and drive positive change.
  4. Professional Growth – Exemplifies continuous learning, personal development, and advancement within their field.
  5. Role Model for Peers – Serves as a mentor, motivator, or example for other young professionals.
  6. Alignment with Chamber Values – Reflects the Chamber’s commitment to strengthening the community, supporting business vitality, and encouraging collaboration.

Eligibility:

  • Nominees must be between 21 and 40 years old at the time of nomination.
  • Must live or work in the Kenmore–Tonawanda area.

Family-Owned Business Award

This award recognizes a family-owned business that has demonstrated a commitment to excellence, community impact, and long-term success while maintaining strong family values in business operations.

Nominee Criteria- A nominated business should:

  1. Family Ownership & Leadership – Operated by one or more family members with an active role in the business’s management and decision-making.
  2. Business Success & Longevity – Demonstrates sustained growth, financial stability, or business innovation over time.
  3. Community Impact – Shows dedication to the Kenmore–Tonawanda community through involvement, philanthropy, or local partnerships.
  4. Workplace Culture & Values – Creates a positive work environment rooted in family values, supporting employees and customers alike.
  5. Adaptability & Innovation – Demonstrates resilience and adaptability in meeting industry challenges or changing community needs.
  6. Alignment with Chamber Values – Contributes to the vitality and prosperity of the Ken-Ton region and reflects the Chamber’s mission.

Eligibility:

  • Must be at least 51% family-owned and managed.
  • Must operate within or significantly impact the Kenmore–Tonawanda area.

Small Business Award

This award celebrates a small business that exemplifies innovation, community involvement, and business excellence, making a meaningful impact on the Kenmore–Tonawanda region.

Nominee Criteria- A nominated business should:

  1. Business Excellence – Demonstrates high standards in customer service, product/service quality, and overall business operations.
  2. Growth & Innovation – Shows creativity, adaptability, or unique approaches that have contributed to the business’s success.
  3. Community Engagement – Actively supports and contributes to the Ken-Ton community through volunteerism, sponsorships, partnerships, or philanthropy.
  4. Employee & Workplace Culture – Fosters a supportive, inclusive, and positive work environment for staff.
  5. Resilience & Adaptability – Successfully navigates challenges while continuing to serve customers and contribute to the community.
  6. Alignment with Chamber Values – Reflects the Chamber’s mission of supporting business vitality, community connection, and regional prosperity.

Eligibility:

  • Must be independently owned and operated.
  • Must have 50 or fewer employees.
  • Must be located in or serve the Kenmore–Tonawanda community.

Large Business Award

This award recognizes a large business that demonstrates outstanding leadership, innovation, and community commitment while contributing to the overall economic vitality of the Kenmore–Tonawanda region.

Nominee Criteria- A nominated business should:

  1. Business Excellence & Leadership – Demonstrates a proven record of success, industry leadership, and high standards in operations, customer service, and performance.
  2. Innovation & Growth – Shows forward-thinking strategies, investment in growth, or innovations that strengthen the business and community.
  3. Community Impact – Actively supports and invests in the Ken-Ton community through partnerships, philanthropy, or civic involvement.
  4. Employee Development & Workplace Culture – Provides opportunities for employee advancement, fosters inclusivity, and maintains a positive work environment.
  5. Sustainability & Responsibility – Demonstrates commitment to ethical practices, sustainability, or corporate responsibility.
  6. Alignment with Chamber Values – Reflects the Chamber’s mission of supporting business success, collaboration, and regional prosperity.

Eligibility:

  • Must employ more than 50 employees.
  • Must operate in or have a significant impact on the Kenmore–Tonawanda community.

Awards Overall Rules and Regulations:

Eligibility

  • Nominees do not need to be current Ken-Ton Chamber members, but they must live or work in the Western New York region.

Ineligibility

  • Current board members are not eligible for nomination in any category.
  • Self-nominations are permitted but must include at least one letter of support or testimonial.

Submission Requirements

  • All nominations must be submitted through the official nomination form.
  • Incomplete nominations will not be considered.
  • Each nomination should include specific examples of impact aligned with the selected award criteria.

Judging & Selection Process

Selection Committee Composition

  • The Current Ken-Ton Executive Director
  • Ken-Ton Event Committee members

Judging Process

  • Each judge will score submissions independently using rubric based on the award-specific criteria.
  • Judges will meet once to review top-scoring nominations and discuss final selections.
  • In the event of a tie or deadlock, the current President will serve as the deciding vote.

Award Limitations

  • One recipient will be selected per award category.
  • The committee reserves the right to withhold an award if no nomination meets the standard of excellence.
  • Award winners will be notified in advance and recognized during the event.
